Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers to the questions travellers ask us most
Is Kenya safe for tourists?
Kenya welcomes large numbers of international visitors every year, and safari areas are among the most closely managed parts of the country. As with any destination, sensible precautions apply: follow your guide’s advice, keep valuables out of sight in cities and avoid walking alone at night. We monitor conditions constantly and will always tell you honestly if anything affects your plans. You can also check your own government’s current travel advice before booking.
How much does a Kenya safari cost?
The price depends mostly on the level of accommodation, the season, how many people share the vehicle and whether you drive or fly between parks. Group joining safaris with budget camps are the most affordable, while private safaris in luxury conservancy camps cost the most. Send us your dates and budget and we will give you a clear, itemised quote.
What is the best time to visit Kenya?
Kenya is a year-round destination. The main dry seasons — roughly June to October and December to March — offer the easiest game viewing. July to October is Great Migration season in the Masai Mara. The long rains (roughly April to May) bring green landscapes, fewer visitors and lower prices.
When is the Great Migration?
The migration herds are usually in Kenya’s Masai Mara from around July to October, with Mara River crossings most frequent between late July and September. The exact timing depends on rainfall and changes from year to year, and crossings can never be guaranteed on a particular day.
How do I pay for my safari?
The payment methods available to you are listed on your quote and invoice, and every payment is confirmed in writing. Please only pay into the accounts shown on our official invoice — if you ever receive a message asking you to pay somewhere else, contact us on our published phone number first.
How much deposit is required?
A deposit is needed to secure your camps, lodges and vehicle, because many properties require us to pay them in advance. The exact deposit amount and the date the balance is due are shown on your quote and in our Booking & Cancellation Policy.
What happens after booking?
Once your deposit is received we confirm all accommodation and send you a written booking confirmation. Before you travel you receive your final itinerary, vouchers, packing advice and the contact details of your guide. On arrival we meet you at the airport, and our team is available on WhatsApp throughout your safari.
Are park fees included?
Your quote states clearly whether national park and conservancy fees are included. In our safari packages they normally are, and they are listed as a separate line so you can see exactly what you are paying for.
Are meals included?
On safari, meals are usually included on a full-board basis (breakfast, lunch and dinner) while you are in the parks. City hotels and beach stays may be on bed-and-breakfast or half-board. Your itinerary lists the meal plan for every night.
Do you provide airport transfers?
Yes. We can meet you at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, and at Moi International Airport in Mombasa or the Ukunda airstrip for Diani, and take care of transfers throughout your trip.
Do I need a visa or eTA for Kenya?
Kenya uses an online Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) system for most visitors, which must be approved before you travel. Entry rules can change, so please check the official Kenyan government eTA website and your own government’s travel advice before you book flights. We are happy to point you in the right direction.
What should I pack?
Pack light, neutral-coloured clothing in layers — early mornings on game drives can be cold — plus a warm fleece, a sun hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, insect repellent, comfortable shoes, a camera with spare batteries and a power bank. Soft-sided bags are best, especially if you fly between parks, where luggage limits apply.
Can children go on safari?
Yes. Many camps and lodges welcome children, and some offer family tents and activities for young guests. Some properties and activities have minimum ages, so tell us your children’s ages and we will plan accordingly. A private vehicle is usually best for families.
Do you arrange honeymoon safaris?
Yes — honeymoon safaris are one of our specialities. We can add private dinners, a hot-air balloon flight and a beach extension, and let camps know you are celebrating.
Can you accommodate dietary requirements?
Yes. Please tell us about vegetarian, vegan, halal, gluten-free or other dietary needs and any allergies when you book. We pass them to every camp and lodge on your itinerary.
Private vs group safari — what is the difference?
On a private safari you have your own vehicle and guide, can start on any date and decide the pace each day. On a group joining safari you share a vehicle with other travellers on fixed departure dates, which lowers the price per person. Private safaris suit families, couples and photographers; group safaris suit solo travellers and tighter budgets.
What vehicles do you use?
Our safaris use 4×4 safari vehicles with pop-up roofs for game viewing and a window seat for every guest. See our Safari Vehicles page for photos and details of what is on board.
